SSD is really not for your “OS” drive with a full tweak to HDD. 1. Capacity constraints Most users will buy SSD for their OS drive and as such they will buy the bare minimum of it. So some will get 60GB and max it out with only 10-20GB space left. Even people with 128GB or 256GB, they will max it out by installing as many stuff on it to speed up stuff. Technically, it is the read speed and almost unlimited amount of read you can do on SSD that prompts the users from setting up their SSD as such. But at $100 for 128GB SSD, there is no more place for 60GB SSD. Any SSD less than 128GB should only be for dedicated device. Capacity is life span of the SSD. Explained in Max. Write Cycle. 2. Temporary Files When SSD users say “tweak” , they usually mean moving much of the write to HDD and leave most of the reading to SSD. The initial approach is good but OS do use [...]

Encoding problem in ID3 tags of international MP3 files Submitted by ebuck on Tue, 02/24/2009 – 19:10 System administration Multimedia For those of you who do not listen to music from other countries, this article may not have much meaning or relevance. But for those of you who do listen to international MP3 files from countries with character sets outside of standard ASCII like Japan, Korea and China, you have probably dealt with ID3 tags that displaymojibake in your music player or operating system. Basically, instead of seeing the song name and artist in the appropriate language (even with the correct fonts installed), you see gibberish. The cause of the problem is that the ID3 data in your mp3 file is using one character encoding while your operating system or music player is using another. For example, let’s say I’m listening to a Korean mp3. The ID3 data may have been entered by a Korean native using a localized version of their operating system. Unless the user specifically used an international encoding scheme (such as Unicode), the data will be stored in a locale-specific encoding, in this case a Korean encoding. When the mp3 is played back on a western computer, [...]
